3 Home Chef Inspired Hot Dog Recipes

on

Today we’re celebrating the unsung hero of the summer cookout: the humble hot dog. Gone are the days when ketchup, mustard and relish were the only options for dressing up this classic American sandwich. (Side note: IS a hot dog a sandwich? Discuss!) We dreamed up 3 easy hot dogs based on Home Chef classic flavors that are big on taste, and easy on effort. Try one tonight for an easy and fun dinner, or go all out and offer all three at your next cookout!

Tex-Mex Hot Dogs

Spice lovers, this dog’s for you! We’ve taken all the flavors we love from our Tex-Mex Turkey Stuffed Peppers and put ’em on a bun. PS: If you’re not as crazy about the fiery flavors of Mexican cuisine, deseed your jalapeño or add a squeeze of lime to your mayo instead of chipotle.

Directions
  1. Roughly chop cilantro, slice up a fresh jalapeño pepper, and crumble cotija (or feta) cheese.
  2. Make the chipotle mayo: whisk 1 tsp of chipotle in adobo sauce into 1/2 cup of mayo to taste.
  3. Coat hot dogs in a thin layer of cooking oil and grill until cooked through.
  4. Toast hot dog buns and pile each one high with toppings!
Huli-Huli Hot Dogs

Don those Hawaiian shirts and pour the piña coladas – we’re going to the islands tonight! This one’s inspired by our fan-favorite Huli-Huli Chicken Rice Bowl, which is a take on the classic Hawaiian lunch plate.

Directions
  1. Roughly chop cilantro, slice up a couple green onions, and slice 1 cup of fresh pineapple into grillable wedges.
  2. Make the creamy slaw: whisk together 1/4 cup of mayo with 1 tsp sugar and 1 tsp white vinegar. Mix in pre-sliced coleslaw mix and salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Coat hot dogs in a thin layer of cooking oil and grill until cooked through. Grill pineapple until charred on each side, about 4 minutes total.
  4. Toast hot dog buns and pile each one high with toppings, drizzling teriyaki glaze on last!
BBQ Ranch Hot Dogs

We couldn’t resist this now iconic combination of BBQ, ranch, and cheese. Turns out they’re equally as delectable on a bun as they are on our Wood-fired BBQ Chicken Pizza!

Directions
  1. Roughly chop cilantro and shred 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese.
  2. Coat hot dogs in a thin layer of cooking oil and grill until cooked through.
  3. Toast hot dog buns and pile each one high with cheese, a drizzle of each sauce, and then cilantro last!
